Looking for Host Families for Japan Marching Band performing at 2023 Rose Parade
Please see information below:

This is Tomoya. Hope all is well with you.

I’m contacting you today not as a reporter.

I’m good friends with the director of Green Band Japan, a group that sends a top high school (and sometimes college and alumni) marching band from Japan to the annual Rose Parade.

Aside from LAUSD and Pasadena City College, they are the only student marching band that participates in the Rose Parade every year.

They were unable to take part during the pandemic, but they will be returning this New Year.

As part of their stay in Southern California, Green Band students will take part in a home-stay program where they get to experience American life.

But the band is having difficulty securing enough host families to accommodate this year’s whopping 190 students.

Many of the existing host families are those with kids who play music.

Attached is the flyer for the program. Tentative schedule for the home-stay is Dec. 30-Jan. 1.

Click here for the link to the home stay application.

Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.

I think IUSD makes a great match with Green Band considering how international and music-oriented the district is.

Here are some videos of the band from recent years for your reference:

10/5/22 – Fall Concerts, Away Game this Friday

WELCOME ORCHESTRA AND BAND PARENTS!
We hope your student is off to a good start this school year, and enjoying playing with their music ensemble! TIMB is the volunteer parent organization that supports instrumental music at Northwood: orchestras, bands, guitar, jazz, and marching band. For more photos/videos and information: visit our website, view our Flickr account, and subscribe to our YouTube channel and Instagram @NorthwoodInstrumental!

FALL CONCERTS ARE TAKING PLACE NEXT WEEK!

  • All orchestras: Saturday, October 15, 1:00pm in the NHS theater
  • All wind bands: Saturday, October 15, 3:00pm in the NHS theater

CONCERT ATTIRE

Students have been instructed on appropriate concert attire by their instructors. Please see Concert Attire Do’s and Dont’s for a complete description, with photos.

CONCERT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We need a few volunteers to take tickets, hand out programs, and direct people to seats at both concerts. Please sign up here if you are able to help. You will receive free admission, we will train you, and you will be able to watch your child’s performance, thank you!

Make your KMA donation by October 9th to ensure you receive ALL your benefits (free concert tickets, program recognition, early entry to concerts) in time for the Fall Concerts on October 15th. Read more about KMA HERE, and donate online today!

Note that KMA supports ALL instrumental music (orchestras, bands, jazz, chamber, guitar ensemble). Marching Band donations collected earlier this year support marching band expenses (food, uniforms, trucks, show design and music, coaching, etc.).

TICKET VOUCHERS FOR CONCERTS
If you donated $125+ to Keep Music Alive (KMA), your student will be given ticket vouchers next week. Vouchers can be exchanged at the concert for tickets. CHARTER OAK donors may be seated 15 minutes prior to concert (12:45pm or 2:45pm on Saturday, 10/15).

Note that Marching Band donations collected earlier this year support marching band expenses and do not count towards KMA, which supports ALL instrumental music.

FRIDAY 10/7 – AWAY GAME

This Friday’s AWAY game is being held at University High School (4771 Campus Drive, Irvine, 92612). The NHS marching band will sit on the AWAY stand side. Students will NOT wear their marching band uniforms; see dress code below. We WILL be feeding students at this event*.
*We need a volunteer to pick up the band’s dinner at Del Taco (by Zion Market) at 6:45pm and deliver to the University High School track. If you can help, please sign up here. Thank you!
