ALL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SENIORS: SENIOR PORTRAITS COMING UP SOON!
One of the traditions in Instrumental Music is taking senior portraits in formal concert attire. The Instrumental Music Senior Photo Shoot will be taking place on Sunday, 4/6 and Sunday, 4/13 from 3:00-6:00pm each day. THESE PHOTOS ARE FREE AND A GREAT WAY TO CELEBRATE OUR SENIORS!  They will be included in our end-of-the-year slideshow, and each senior family will receive a copy as a “thank you” gift.

Students will need to wear their formal concert attire and bring their instruments with them as will be 501 will be locked. Parents/sibling/buddy photos will be allowed, time permitting. Please signup for your free photo session HERE.

We love our seniors and want to celebrate them! We will be highlighting seniors on our Instagram account (@northwoodinstrumental) with Senior Spotlights.
Please complete the survey HERE by May 27th and include a fun photo if you wish!

AUDITION INFORMATION
This is the current audition information for the 2025-2026 school year:
Students will have their auditions IN-CLASS during their current ensemble (Mrs. Tav/Mr. Case/Mr. Q will give you more info in class).

ALL AUDITION MUSIC CAN BE FOUND HERE

String students – Please prepare the required audition music & the scale sheet
Wind Students – Please prepare the required audition music & a Bb Concert scale (play through your range/any tempo/any rhythm).
Percussion Students – Please prepare the required audition music for all three instruments – Marimba, Snare & Timpani.  You will also need to prepare the Bb Concert Scale (play through your range on marimba/any tempo/any rhythm)
Piano Students –Please play 2 minutes of the piece of your choosing, plus the required piano scale sheet.

NORTHWOOD VS. PACIFICA, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5th, IRVINE HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM
Don’t miss out on the fun and excitement! Hear and see the Northwood Marching Band & Color Guard’s perform selections from popular Disney films. The band will perform at the pre-game show, during the game, and at halftime. Invite family, friends, NHS & TIMB alumni; everyone is welcome!
5:30pm: Student call time FOR STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN USC BAND DAY, meet at the IHS outdoor basketball courts near the practice gym (drop off is at the parking lot off Walnut, near the swim building)

STUDENTS:

• We will NOT be in uniform.

• Bring: refillable water bottle, instrument, lyre, all music and your flip folder
• There is no case or personal belonging storage at Irvine! Leave cases and personal belongings at home or in your car.
• Phones are not allowed in stands.
• Stay with a buddy at all times.
• Band staff/leadership/drumline/pit/tubas are all expected to UNLOAD the trucks back at NHS after the game.

PARENTS:

• Please pick up your student around 9:30pm-10:00pm at the parking lot off Walnut, near the swim building
• This is the only supervised pickup location.
• If attending the game, please be aware that once inside the stadium, if you leave, you will not be allowed back inside the stadium.

WE NEED TRUCK DRIVERS!
Truck drivers are like the backbone of every performance. Without the instruments and uniforms, the show cannot go on. Please consider helping out by signing up HERE to drive one of three trucks to our upcoming performances. This is a great volunteer position for all you Dads out there!

USC BAND DAY, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th, LA COLISEUM
Join us for USC Band Day and watch NHS perform alongside the USC Trojan Marching Band with other high schools from all over California as the Trojans take on the Utah State Aggies at their home opener. The game starts at 8:00pm. Student participants as well as guests who would like to ride the bus to and from the game with NHS should fill out THIS FORM ASAP. MARCHING BAND KICKOFF CELEBRATION & PERFORMANCE, THURSDAY, AUGUST 15th at 6:00PM
Join us at the Northwood High Main Field for the Northwood Marching Band & Color Guard Kickoff Performance! Invite family, friends, NHS & TIMB alumni; everyone is welcome! Parents and friends, bring your chairs, arrive early to stake your spot and enjoy some shaved ice from Kona Ice, who will have refreshments available for purchase starting at 5:00pm. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC AWARDS & BBQ, SATURDAY, MAY 11th
Join us for our end of the year Instrumental Music Awards & BBQ on Saturday, May 11th at 3:30pm. During this event, we will some delicious BBQ provided by TIMB, then head into the NHS Theater for the awards portion of the evening, which will include the popular senior “final”, a year-end slideshow, and next year’s marching band theme reveal!

JAZZ AT THE OAK, FRIDAY, MAY 17th
The preparations are under way for the annual NHS Jazz at the Oak Concert. Please join us for this free community event which will take place on Friday, May 17th at 5:30pm around the NHS Oak Tree. Bring your lawn chair, grab a bite from our food vendors, enter to win fabulous raffle prizes and enjoy performances by the amazing jazz musicians from NHS and Sierra Vista Middle School.

Once again, we are inviting all NHS music families to contribute a raffle prize. This could be a product or service from your business, a basket you put together, sports tickets or gift cards you are not using. Recognize a special senior in the upcoming Pops Concert program, taking place May 21st-23rd. Here’s what you do:
1. Create your dedication artwork proportionate to the space you are purchasing. The art work must be appropriate and suitable for printing.

• Quarter Page (2.5 x 3.75 inches) for $12
• Half Page (5 x 3.75 inches) for $24

Tomorrow the Timberwolves will go up against the University HS Trojans at a home game being held at Irvine High School. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the theme of this game will be “Pink Out”, so please wear PINK! The band will perform at the pre-game show, during the game, and at halftime. Invite family, friends, NHS & TIMB alumni; everyone is welcome!

5:30pm: Student call time, meet at the IHS outdoor basketball courts by the practice gym (drop off at parking lot off Escolar)
6:40pm: Pre-game show, National Anthem

JAZZ AT THE OAK AND END OF THE YEAR CELEBRATION
Don’t miss this year’s Jazz at the Oak Concert and End of the Year Celebration — combined together for the first time! Arrive a bit early to stake out your spot, get those raffle tickets in, and grab a bite from Tacos & Co who will be serving food starting at 5:00pm. See the menu HERE.

This year we are inviting you to contribute raffle prize. This could be a product or service from your business, a basket you put together, sports tickets or gift cards you are not using. Join us for the final concerts of the school year! All concerts begin at 7:00pm in the NHS Theater:

• Wednesday, 5/17 – Jazz Combo II, String Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra, Wind Ensemble
• Thursday, 5/18 – Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Orchestra, Wind Symphony
• Friday, 5/19 – Jazz Combo I, Jazz Ensemble I, Philharmonic Orchestra, Vocal Music

Ticket & Voucher Information:

• Wed, 5/17 and Thur, 5/18 Concert prices are:  $10 adults, $5 students and seniors
• Fri, 5/19 Gala prices are:  $15 adults, $10 students and seniors
• You can exchange your KMA (Keep Music Alive donation) vouchers for tickets for the Wed, 5/17 and Thur, 5/18 concerts. You can use ONE ticket to attend both concerts.
• KMA vouchers will not be accepted at the Fri, 5/19 Gala. You must buy a separate ticket for this performance.
• No presales; all tickets and voucher exchanges will be at the concert.
• CHARTER OAK DONORS: You will be seated starting at 6:45pm for the Wed, 5/17 and Thur, 5/18 concerts. Please arrive early! No early seating for the Fri, 5/19 Gala.

Recognize a special senior in the upcoming Pops Concert program, taking place May 17th-19th. Here’s what you do:
1. Create your dedication artwork proportionate to the space you are purchasing. The art work must be appropriate and suitable for printing.

• Quarter Page (2.5 x 3.75 inches) for $12
• Half Page (5 x 3.75 inches) for $24
• Full Page (5 x 8 inches) for $48

2. Save your final artwork as JPG, JPEG or PNG.

Would you like to help out the marching band this coming year? We are in need of truck drivers to help transport band equipment, uniforms and supplies to each performance. ALL INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SENIORS: SENIOR PORTRAITS THIS WEEKEND!

One of the traditions in Instrumental Music is taking senior portraits in formal concert attire. The Instrumental Music Senior Photo Shoot will be taking place this weekend, 4/29-4/30, from 3:00-6:00pm each day. THESE PHOTOS ARE FREE AND A GREAT WAY TO CELEBRATE OUR SENIORS!  They will be included in our end-of-the-year slideshow, and we hope to give each senior family a copy as a “thank you” gift.

Students will need to wear their formal concert attire and bring their instruments with them as will be 501 will be locked. Parents/sibling/buddy photos will be allowed, time permitting. Please signup for your free photo session HERE.

• BRING your instrument. Bring your instrument home on FRIDAY, as Room 501 will be locked during the photo shoot.

   The preparations are under way for the annual NHS Jazz at the Oak Concert and Instrumental Music Awards — combined together this year for the first time! Please join us for this free community event which will take place on Friday, May 12th at 5:30pm around the NHS Oak Tree. Bring your lawn chair, grab a bite from Tacos & Co, enter to win fabulous raffle prizes (including Disneyland tickets!), enjoy performances by the amazing jazz musicians from NHS and Sierra Vista Middle School, watch our end-of-the-year slideshow and find out next year’s marching band theme — all in one fun and memorable night!

IRVINE JAZZ FESTIVAL THIS SATURDAY!
Come out and support our Northwood Jazz Program at the annual Irvine Jazz Festival at Irvine High School THIS Saturday!  Our four big bands and two jazz combos will be performing along with jazz ensembles from throughout Southern California, including our friends at Sierra Vista!

NEXT WEEK: FREE SPRING FESTIVAL CONCERTS
Spring is coming a little early to Northwood! Join us next Tuesday, 2/28 and Wednesday, 3/1 for two evenings of live music, presented by our bands and orchestras. All concerts are FREE and will be held in the Northwood High School Theater.

• All Orchestras: Wednesday, March 1st at 7:00pm
• If you are a Charter Oak level KMA donor, please check-in by 6:45pm for early seating

VOLUNTEER SUPPORT IS NEEDED FOR THE FOLLOWING EVENTS:

  We are looking for help to prepare the marching band uniforms for cleaning. Please sign up HERE to help on Saturday, March 11th from 9:00am-noon. Breakfast will be provided. The more help we have, the more quickly we will finish!
• CSUF WINDS FESTIVAL, 3/4
  Our Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony bands will be joining high schools from across southern CA and performing at the CSUF Winds Festival on Saturday, 3/4.
